Terms of service.

The agreement

By creating an account or using Socketly you agree to these terms. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you are confirming you may bind it.

What the service is

Socketly is a hosted WebSocket API. You publish messages from your server, clients subscribe from a browser or an app, and we deliver them. We run the socket tier so you do not have to.

Your account

• You are responsible for what happens under your account, including anything done with your keys.
• Secret keys belong on your server. A secret key can publish to any channel on its app and can sign a channel authorization claiming to be any user. Putting one in a browser, a mobile app, or a public repository exposes everything that app can reach.
• If a key leaks, roll it. A roll can revoke the old key immediately, and that is the right setting for a leak.
• You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.

What you may not do

• Use the service to send unlawful content, or content you have no right to send.
• Attempt to reach another customer’s app, channels, or data.
• Work around plan limits, quotas or metering, including by spreading one application across accounts to avoid them.
• Resell the service as your own realtime product.

Plans, payment and cancellation

The free plan needs no card. Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe and renew until cancelled. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the current period runs to its end, because you have already paid for it. We do not refund part of a period unless we have got something wrong.

Prices can change. If they do, we will tell you by email before the change reaches your account, and you can cancel before it does.

Limits, and what happens at them

Every plan publishes its limits, and the gateway enforces them. Past a limit we keep delivering for a short margin and say so in the response, then refuse — a hard stop at the ceiling cannot produce a surprise bill, which is deliberate, but it can produce an outage on your best day. The margin is the compromise. We do not meter overage and we will not bill you for exceeding a plan.

Suspension

We may suspend an account for non-payment, for abuse, or where use is putting the service at risk for other customers. Except where the risk is immediate we will contact you first. Suspension blocks sign-in; we will tell you what it would take to lift it.

Availability

We work to keep the service up and we do not currently offer a contractual uptime guarantee. It is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those the law does not let us exclude. If you need a formal service level, write to us before you depend on one.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, neither party is liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability in any twelve-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Ending it

You can close your account at any time. We may end this agreement on notice, or immediately for a serious breach. When it ends, your apps stop serving and your data is deleted on the schedule in the privacy policy. Export anything you need first.

Changes to these terms

We will give notice by email before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that is acceptance; if you would rather not, cancel.

Who this agreement is with

Socketly is operated by White Leaf LLC, a company registered in the United States. It is the same entity that takes the payments.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes go to the courts there.
